Humanitarian Bulletin Latin America and the Caribbean Issue 13 | 1 January - 31 March 2013

Most of the disasters were a result of regular rainy seasons in South America, cold weather in Central America and drought in North America. Bolivia and Peru were hit hardest.

  • 19 desastres naturales afectaron a cerca de 552,000 personas en la región, durante el primer trimestre de 2013. Las inundaciones afectaron al 71 por ciento del total.

  • Brasil es el principal donante de la región, aportando $106 millones para la respuesta humanitaria, desde el 2000.

  • Un fuerte compromiso por parte de los socios humanitarios es necesario sobre el tema de la violencia. 41 de las 50 ciudades más peligrosas del mundo están en América Latina y el Caribe.

• As of 20 December 2012, a total of 711,682 families / 6,243,998 persons in 3,064 Barangays / 312 municipalities / 40 cities / 34 provinces of Regions IV-B, VI, VII, VIII, IX,
X, XI, XII, CARAGA and ARMM were affected.

• The total number of population currently served inside and outside the evacuation centers is 227,992 families / 979,508 persons.

  • Additional three (3) evacuation centers were opened in Montevista and New Bataan, Compestela Valley and Santa Josepha, Agusan del Sur.

  • Number of dead increased by twenty-three (23) due to the inclusion of identified cadavers in Monkayo (22) and Compostela (1), Compestela Valley

  • Totally damaged houses increased by 2,497 while partially damaged houses increased by 6,214.

II. UPDATES TO THE SITUATION REPORT (As of 16 December 2012, 5:00 AM)

• DPWH XI provided dump trucks for the transportation of assorted relief goods to different affected areas.

• AFP-EASTMINCOM provided trucks for the transportation of non-food items to the municipality of New Bataan, Cornpostela Valley.

• DOH-CHD X provided chlorination of water pumps, IEC and distribution of 100 water kits and hygiene kits at Boston, Davao Oriental. Additional 546 hygiene kits and water kits were provided in Boston, Davao Oriental by DSWD and UNICEF.

El Gobierno nacional envió ayuda a Córdoba por el temporal

El Gobierno nacional, a través del ministerio de Desarrollo Social, envió ayuda a la provincia de Córdoba azotada por un violento temporal que dejó al menos dos muertos, varios heridos, 355 evacuados y parte da la ciudad sin energía. Además viajaron 200 efectivos de Gendarmería para tareas de ayuda.

Desarrollo Social envió anoche camiones con víveres y materiales para colaborar con la ayuda a la provincia de Córdoba, se informó oficialmente.

Qué es UNDAC?
La Evaluacion y Coordinacion ante Desastres de las Naciones Unidas (UNDAC, para su siglas en ingles) es parte del sistema internacional de respuesta a emergencias repentinas.
UNDAC fue creado en 1993. Es diseñado para apoyar a las Naciones Unidas y los gobiernos de paises afectados por desastres durante la primer fase de una emergencia repentina. Ademas, UNDAC apoya en la coordinación de la llegada de socorro internacional al nivel nacional y/o al sitio de la emergencia.
