Last January 12, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFCR) and the Argentine Red Cross signed an agreement Framework of cooperation with the White Helmets Commission (Comisión de los Cascos Blancos).
“Changing the World of Refugee Girls Through Education”: this is the aim of a partnership between Procter & Gamble (P&G), UNESCO and Save the Children showcased during the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, on 17 January.
Marking the launch of the commitment, P&G brought together a panel to raise awareness of the extreme vulnerability of refugee girls and to secure solutions to their future through education and skills development.
Three border posts along the Myanmar–Bangladesh border were attacked on 9 October by Harakah al-Yaqin, a resurgent group in Rakhine state which has supposed links to the Rohingya. In response, the Myanmar Army has deployed more troops into the northern Rakhine area, mainly in Maungdaw, and has conducted a security operation. At least 130 people have since been killed in raids and skirmishes. A state of emergency has been declared.

National disaster management policies and guidelines benefit from building on and incorporating references to international humanitarian standards. But what does it take to link both and how can humanitarian professionals engage with National Disaster Management Authorities to achieve that goal?

Switzerland hosted a meeting of UNAIDS’s governing board in Geneva from 6 to 8 December 2016. In its capacity as chair of the board, it invited all members to a day of site visits in the Geneva region.
