Peru: Floods and Landslides - Nov 2011 — 247 found

Civil Defence officials in central-northern Peru have been helping residents to evacuate after the Aucayacu River overflowed on Thursday 24 May.

The floods have left dozens of people displaced, more than a hundred houses severely damaged and bananas and cocoa crops destroyed.

El 23 de mayo de 2012, a las 05:30 horas aproximadamente, a consecuencia de las precipitaciones pluviales, se desbordó el río Aucayacu, afectando viviendas en las calles de Santa Rosa y 27 de Noviembre, distrito de José Crespo Castillo, provincia de Leoncio Prado.

23/05/2012 - The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) has just released €5 million to assist people affected by severe flooding in South America, particularly in Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil.

An estimated 1.2 million people have been affected by heavy rains and flooding throughout the region. Hundreds of thousands of farmers lost their crops, and many families have been forced to flee their homes due to the high water and landslides. Entire areas are still submerged under water.

Since late January to date, heavy rains, floods, overflowing rivers, mudslides, hailstorms and snowfalls are affecting several countries of South America, most affected being Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. The Pacific coast and the Andean highlands have suffered from exceptionally high levels of rain, while Amazonian plains are mainly flooded by water flowing from the Andes. To date, more than 1.2 million people are affected.

El 18 de mayo de 2012, a las 17:00 horas aproximadamente, se produjo intensas precipitaciones pluviales y granizada, afectando viviendas y áreas de cultivo, en comunidades del distrito de Acobamba, Rosario, Paucará, Andabamba, Pomacocha y Anta, provincia de Acobamba.

El Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil, a través de la Dirección Regional INDECI Nor Oriente, movilizó alrededor de 16 toneladas de ayuda humanitaria para apoyar a las familias damnificadas por las inundaciones en el distrito de Santa Cruz, en la provincia de Alto Amazonas en la región Loreto.

Grâce au fonds d’aide d’urgence de la Croix-Rouge internationale et du Croissant-Rouge (DREF, Disaster Relief Emergency Fund), la Belgique a financé ces dernières semaines des opérations de secours au Rwanda, en Ouganda et au Pérou. Cette aide humanitaire a été mise en place suite aux fortes pluies survenues dans ces trois pays. La Coopération belge au Développement participe aux actions pour un montant total de 125.000 euros.

El 12 de mayo de 2012, a las 14:30 horas aproximadamente, a consecuencia de las precipitaciones pluviales acompañados con granizadas, afecta las comunidades de Ingahuasi, Samana, Licapa, Rosapata, Huallancha, San Lucas, Arizona, Anchayhuasi y Angasmayo de la localidad de Casacancha, distrito de Vinchos, provincia de Huamanga, dejando vías afectadas.

I. HECHOS:

El 11 de mayo de 2012, a las 16:30 horas aproximadamente, a consecuencia de las precipitaciones pluviales acompañados de granizadas se produjo un huayco, en la localidad de San Juan de Trigopampa, distrito de San José de Ticllas, provincia de Huamanga, afectando viviendas y carreteras.

30 April 2012: Continuous heavy rains over the past few months have lead to widespread flooding in Loreto, Peru – a region located in the heart of the Peruvian rainforest. The heavy rains have caused the river water levels to rise and consequently overflow into surrounding areas. An estimated 52,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed in Loreto. As of 20 April, a reported 15,000 people are sheltered in tents, schools and other public structures and a total of 246,000 people in Loreto have been affected.

El Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil – INDECI, movilizó en las últimas horas desde la ciudad de Lima, 06 toneladas y media de ayuda humanitaria con destino al Gobierno Regional de Loreto, con la finalidad de apoyar en la atención de las familias damnificadas por la emergencia en dicha zona del país.

DESTACADOS:

  • REPUBLICA DOMINICANA: Evacuan a 3,000 personas. 19 provincias en alerta por inundaciones.

  • HAITI: 16 muertos y 7,600 evacuados por lluvia. Los afectados por el terremoto son los mas vulnerables.

  • COLOMBIA: La primera ola invernal de 2012 ha dejado a 104,367 personas afectadas.

A ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) has found a need for emergency shelter in isolated areas of northern Peru, following on-going floods in Iquitos city and the surrounding area that have caused widespread displacement.

The team's primary relief efforts are focused in the outlying areas of Indiana, Fernado Lores and Los Amazonas, all of which are regions that are hard to reach but have the most need.
