Sri Lanka: Storm and Floods - Nov 2011

Disaster description

A storm packing heavy rain and gusty winds lashed southern Sri Lanka, killing 20 and displacing more than 6,000 persons. The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said that 66,286 people of 16,837 families have been affected, with 20 still reported missing. Most of the missing persons are reported to be fishermen. The DMC also said 737 houses have been fully damaged. Government intervention began on 27 November. (Gov't of Sri Lanka, 28 Nov 2011)
