URUMQI, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- About 143,800 people have been affected and more than 2,453 houses toppled after a 6.0-magnitude quake jolted northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region Tuesday morning, local authorities said Thursday.

The quake rocked the border area of Yining and Gongliu counties in the Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili at 8:21 a.m., knocking down several corrals and damaging nearby houses, officials with the region's earthquake administration said.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs on Wednesday sent 2,000 cotton tents and other relief materials to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the wake of a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the region Tuesday morning.

Relief materials sent to quake-hit areas in the Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili also included 3,000 folding beds, 10,000 cotton-padded quilts and 10,000 coats.

BEIJING — A moderate earthquake in remote northwestern China has destroyed dozens of houses and damaged many more, but there have been no reported casualties, government officials and state media said Tuesday.

More than 50 houses collapsed and hundreds of homes were damaged after the 5.4-magnitude quake jolted the border area of Yining and Gongliu counties in Xinjiang, the local earthquake bureau said on its official microblog.

BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- China Earthquake Administration (CEA) initiated third-class emergency response to a 6.0-magnitude quake that jolted the country's northwestern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region early Tuesday morning.

The quake hit the border area of Yining and Gongliu counties, and no casualties have been reported so far.

The quake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale rocked the Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili at 8:21 a.m., knocking down several corrals and damaging nearby houses, officials with the region's earthquake administration said.
