Bangladesh: Storm - Apr 1985

Disaster description

At least 50 people were killed and thousands were injured when a cyclonic storm hit six villages in Bmarata union of Pabna district in the late afternoon on 28 March 1985. The storm, with winds up to 150 km (95 miles) an hour, demolished 90 percent of the houses, in the six villages. The storm was followed by 30 minutes of an unprecedented hailstorm that caused most of the deaths and injuries and inflicted severe damage to plantations. (UN DHA, 1 Apr 1985)
