PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 23 May 2012 - Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Werner Almhofer, condemned today the arson that destroyed one Kosovo Serb’s house and seriously damaged another’s in Drenoc/Drenovac village in Klinë/Klina municipality last night.

“I strongly condemn this latest incident affecting Kosovo Serb returnees and their properties in Klinë/Klina municipality. Such incidents increase fear among already vulnerable communities and negatively impact inter-ethnic relations, which in turn compromises the return process.

21/05/2012 – Today, civil protection intervention teams from seven Western Balkan countries are arriving near Zagreb in Croatia to take part in a four-day exercise simulating a large scale flooding. The teams from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo(*) will be participating side by side with their EU colleagues and trainers from Slovenia, Germany, Sweden and Luxembourg.

PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 20 May 2012 – All OSCE-run polling stations in Kosovo closed today after the orderly completion of voting, according to the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Werner Almhofer. The reported provisional turnout was 23.58 per cent.

As the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) scrutinized the budget proposals today for 10 peacekeeping operations for the fiscal year 2012/13, several delegates argued against across-the-board cuts and warned that reductions in Haiti, Côte d’Ivoire, South Sudan and Kosovo could jeopardize the ability of the “blue helmets” in those countries to implement their mandates.

Some Speakers Call for Strict Budgetary Discipline; Others Warn Arbitrary Cuts, Resource Reduction Targets ‘Grave Error’

I. Introduction and Mission priorities

The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1244 (1999), by which the Council decided to establish the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and requested that I report at regular intervals on the implementation of its mandate. It covers the activities of UNMIK, and developments related thereto, from 16 January to 15 April 2012.

PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 8 May 2012 – The Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Werner Almhofer, welcomed today the decision to return for review to the Assembly of Kosovo certain provisions of the new criminal code in Kosovo that threaten to diminish media freedom.

“I welcome the decision to return Articles 37 and 38 of the new criminal code in Kosovo for review by the Assembly. Those two articles in their present form undermine media freedom,” he said.

PRISHTINË/PRIŠTINA, 6 May 2012 – All OSCE-run polling stations in Kosovo closed today after the orderly completion of voting, according to the Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Ambassador Werner Almhofer. The reported provisional turnout was 32.17 per cent.

“I am pleased to report that today we were able to provide people with an opportunity to exercise their right to vote in a calm environment,” said Almhofer. “Despite a few minor technical issues, the day’s voting passed in an orderly manner.”

Laying out the programme of work of the Security Council in May, under the first presidency of Azerbaijan, the country’s Permanent Representative this afternoon vowed to work to maintain unity among members for addressing the conflict in Syria and the many other complex situations the body was seized with.

“As President, I will do my best to keep unanimity and consensus approach to that kind of sensitive issue,” Agshin Mehdiyev told correspondents at Headquarters, saying that the presidency ushered in an “historic period” for his country.

The United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) today welcomed an agreement reached on Monday by which the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will facilitate voting in Kosovo for upcoming elections in Serbia.

DUBLIN, 30 April 2012 – The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Ireland's Deputy Prime Minister Eamon Gilmore today welcomed the agreement reached regarding the facilitation by the OSCE of voting in Kosovo in the forthcoming Serbian parliamentary and presidential elections.
