I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

1. According to the PDMC meeting held on 23 May, there is likely to be another flash floods on Saturday 26 May following the weather forecast which indicate heavy rain fall in Sari Pul and the neighbouring highland areas.

• Plus de 39 000 Congolais réfugiés au Rwanda et en Ouganda suite aux récentes opérations militaires au Nord-Kivu. L’assistance est en cours pour les milliers de personnes déplacées internes.

• Rapatriement des réfugiés congolais en République du Congo : près de 1 300 personnes rapatriées à ce jour.

• Plus de 900 000 caprins et ovins touchés par la peste des petits ruminants en Equateur

• Choléra : 14 644 cas dont 245 décès enregistrés depuis le début de l’année

Faits saillants:

· Plus de 18 000 personnes déplacées (3 661 ménages) au sud du Territoire de Lubero

· 8 735 déplacés assistés en biens non alimentaires par Solidarités et NRC (Programme RRMP) à Mugunga III et 2 620 personnes déplacées à Mungunga I

· Accès humanitaire réduit sur certains axes à l’est du Territoire de Masisi dû au délabrement de la route.

Humanitarian chief supports Burkina Faso’s approach to food crisis: Address urgent needs now and build resilience to future emergencies

(Ouagadougou/New York, 22 May 2012) The United Nations and its partners are supporting the efforts of the Government of Burkina Faso to respond to the food and nutrition crisis, which is affecting some 2.8 million people - or a fifth of the population - as well as some 60,000 Malian refugees, said Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos today.

I. HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES
· An agreement between Malian authorities and ECOWAS mediators extends the mandate of interim President Traoré and mandates a one-year transition to civilian rule.

· The number of estimated IDPs in Mali has increased to 150,460 after new assessments were conducted in Mopti cercles. A monitoring and identification system is being developed to enable more accurate IDP assessments.

· According to the Government of Mali, 1.76 million people are affected by food insecurity in the north,including Segou and Mopti regions.

Faits saillants
- La réponse humanitaire aux mouvements de population massifs sur l’axe Kalehe-Minova s’active.
- Des acteurs humanitaires reprennent leurs activités dans les Hauts Plateaux d’Uvira.
- 170 personnes formées à la prévention et la prise en charge du choléra dans trois zones endémiques.

COLOMBIA: Más de 172,120 afectados por la temporada de lluvias.

GUATEMALA: Las autoridades monitorean la actividad del Volcán de Fuego.

I. FAITS SAILLANTS/PRINCIPALES PRIORITES

• 3,5 millions de personnes environ sont touchées par la crise alimentaire et nutritionnelle au Mali. 175000 enfants de moins de cinq ans souffrent de malnutrition aiguë sévère dans le pays, et plus 385 000 souffrent de malnutrition aiguë modérée.

• La situation qui prévaut au nord du Mali demeure précaire, mais la grande majorité des personnes touchées par la crise alimentaire et nutritionnelle se trouve au sud et nécessite une aide d’urgence.
