(Kinshasa /New York, le 26 Janvier 2012): La communauté humanitaire en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC) a reçu aujourd’hui un nouvel appui financier de 9,1 millions de dollars américains du Fonds central d’intervention pour les urgences humanitaires (CERF) pour lutter contre le cholera, la maladie d’origine hydrique qui a affecté plus de 22 000 personnes l’année passée et causé plus de 500 décès.

On 14 October 2011, the Security Council adopted Resolution 2012, extending for one year the mandate of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), and authorizing the reduction of its military and police workforce to 10,600 elements – 7,340 military and 3,241 police – as recommended by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon in his 25 August report.

Niamey, 11 Novembre 2011 – La campagne agro-pastorale 2011 au Niger s’achève sur un déficit de 519.639 tonnes de céréales et plus de 10.222.308 tonnes de fourrage pour le bétail, selon la dernière évaluation effectuée par le gouvernement. D’autres pays sahéliens, voisins du Niger, connaissent également une baisse du niveau de leur production agricole, ce qui pourrait avoir un impact sur l’approvisionnement du pays en céréales et influencer les prix des denrées alimentaires dans la sous-région.

It is an honour for me to join you to commemorate Lebanon’s Independence Day. This is a proud day for all citizens of Lebanon. I thank the Lebanese people and the Lebanese Armed Forces for your hospitality.

Since achieving independence, the Lebanese people have been striving to achieve stability. Lebanon is rich in culture, history and natural beauty; its people deserve to be rich in peace and security for all people.

(Islamabad 24 October 2011): “The mission of the United Nations is to build a better world, to leave no one behind, and to stand for the poorest and most vulnerable in the name of global peace and social justice,” said United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, on UN Day 2011.

In Pakistan, United Nations works together in solidarity with the people of Pakistan through 19 UN agencies and offices and with 3,000 national staff, addressing both development and humanitarian issues.

Significant gaps remain in delivering on the commitments in the areas of aid, trade, debt relief, and access to new technologies and to affordable essential medicines. A number of crucial commitments that were supposed to have been reached by 2010, including increased aid volume, improved aid effectiveness, and the conclusion of the Doha Round of trade negotiations, have not been met.
