The Netherlands is making an additional €2 million available to UNICEF for humanitarian assistance in Yemen. ‘Due to political unrest and sharply higher food prices, living conditions in the country have got much worse,’ said foreign minister Uri Rosenthal. ‘This money will help UNICEF give more people access to water, sanitation and hygiene, education and nutrition.’

There are over 12 million Yemenis without access to safe drinking water or sanitation facilities. Almost 5 million Yemenis, including a million malnourished children, urgently need food aid. This year the United Nations increased the amount of emergency aid requested for Yemen from €370 million to €455 million.

The Dutch government pledged €3 million earlier this year: €1.5 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and €1.5 million to UNICEF.
