Other updates:

Zika virus

· Kosrae state, Federated States of Micronesia** has reported one confirmed and 16 suspected cases. For further information please refer to PacNet post on 30 March 2016.

· On 28 March, American Samoa reported 403 suspected cases of Zika virus infection and 14 confirmed cases, including 6 pregnant women. Ninety one samples have been sent off island for testing. Source: Media

Conjunctivitis

· Increasing number of cases reported particularly from the capital city, Suva,** Fiji. **Source: Media

Dengue

· French Polynesia: there were 44 confirmed cases for week ending 20 March 2016. Dengue serotype 1 is in circulation. Source: French Polynesia Ministry of Health.

Influenza

· French Polynesia: Increase in Influenza cases reported for week ending 20 March 2016. Thirty three (50%) of 66 samples collected were Influenza A positive and include 12 A (H3N2); 4 A (H1N1)pdm09 pandemic and 17 untyped. Of the 33 confirmed cases 26 were hospitalised including 17 children under 16 years. Source: French Polynesia Ministry of Health.

· Solomon Islands: Samples collected in February when there was peak in the number Influenza-like illness case have confirmed 17 out of 18 samples positive for Influenza A (H1N1) pdm09.

Ebola Virus Disease – no longer Public Health Emergency of International Concern

· The 9th meeting of the Emergency Committee convened by the WHO Director-General under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) regarding the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa took place on 29 March 2016. In the Committee’s view, the Ebola situation in West Africa no longer constitutes a Public Health Emergency of International Concern and the temporary recommendations adopted in response should now be terminated. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)

· Between 15 and 16 March 2016, the National IHR Focal Point for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia notified WHO of 4 additional cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection, including 1 death.
