Report

Published on 01 Jan 2005
This report discusses how gender ideologies might influence people's attitudes to small arms. It argues that gender shapes and constrains the behavior and attitudes of women and men, including creating differences in their approaches to and use of small arms. The document is divided into the following sections:

- Gender perspectives on small arms and light weapons collection programs
- Gender perspectives on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration
- Gender perspectives on small arms and light weapons in society
- Recommendations for policy strategy.

This workshop report summarizes the revised and updated findings of the first contributor meeting of a project on Gender Perspectives on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), jointly undertaken by the United Nations University (Tokyo) and Swisspeace (Bern).
