Overview
Fifty-nine allocations were made by the DREF during the first six months of 2014 for a total of CHF 9,166,345. Just under 70 per cent of the amount of allocations were made as grants to support response to small or medium-scale disasters, referred to as DREF operations. Twelve emergency appeals received start-up funding loans. The allocations supported response to 55 different operations by 45 National Societies.
The amount allocated was 10 per cent below forecast and 8 per cent lower than the amount allocated at the same date in 2013. The number of grants made to DREF operations during the reporting period was 45 compared with 44 in 2013, but the amount allocated as grants was lower, while both the number and amount of loans made to operations which became emergency appeals were higher than in the same period in 2013.
