THE northern region should expect more seasonal rains in August, according to forecasts from the Entebbe meteorology department.

The dry season will start in parts of the west, central, east and areas sorrounding Lake Victoria. Khalid Muwembe, a senior meteorologist, on Tuesday released a review of the June, July and August rainfall performance and outlook.

According to the forecast, Jinja, Kamuli, Iganga, Mayuge, Bugiri, Busia and Tororo will be dry in the second part of August, with normal rains in September.

Pallisa, Mbale, Manafwa, Sironko, Kapchorwa, Kumi, Kaberamaido and Soroti will experience a dry season with occasional outbreaks of showers and thunderstorms.

Katakwi, Moroto, Kotido and Nakapiripiriti will experience sporadic rains in late August and early September. Farmers in these areas can continue planting since there are chances of near normal rains in the region.
