More than 100 missing after landslide
KAMPALA [ACTED News] β After landslides struck Eastern Uganda on Monday, the Ugandan government, National Red Cross, NGOs and communities have mobilized efforts to provide aid to survivors in Mount Elgon. The landslide, which left 18 dead and more than 100 missing, is the third in three years to affect the mountainous area of Bududa. While 112 families have already been given food and relief items the government continues to call for relocation of survivors to safer areas. With an area office some 20 kilometers from Bududa, ACTED can access the site easily and will conduct an initial assessment this week to decide on further steps to take.
