27 confirmed dead in Bulambuli; 5 survivors discharged from hospital

27 people are confirmed dead following a landslide that struck Sisiyi and Bulugunya Sub Counties in Bulambuli District. 16 people were burried in Mabono village, Sisiyi and 11 in Meru village, Buluganya. Five of the survivors have been discharged from hospital.

• Red Cross Rapid Assessments: Landslides have affected 1,548 households (7, 740 people). These include those whose houses were smashed and those surrounding the tragedy scene where cracks are many and intense.

• The Red Cross Assessments also revealed that floods have affected 24, 567 households (119, 831 people) in Bunambutye, Bwikhonge, Nabbongo, Muyembe, Bulambuli TC, Simu, Bukhalu, Bukise, Sironko TC.

• Total of people affected by landslides and floods in Bulambuli is 26, 115 households (127, 571 people) • A URCS truck has arrived in Sisiyi with essential household items for the people in Sisiyi. The distribution of the items will be done alongside the distribution of food from the Office of Prime Minister.

Current needs are: food, shelter, clothes. • The sanitation situation is very bad especially in Mabono parish and the flooded areas because all latrines have collapsed and water is highly contaminated.

• The road in Sisiyi is blocked around the landslide scene. There is need for excavators to clear up the road.

• Schools have been affected yet children report back next week. The schools are Buluganya P.S, Buluganya S.S, Budyeki nursery school, Sooti P.S.
