● On 09 February 2014, AFAD - the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency of Government of Turkey - announced that the total number of Syrians registered and assisted in 22 camps located in 10 provinces was 217,677 including 114 Syrians receiving medical treatment in hospitals. AFAD reported that during the period of 07-09 Feb 2014, a total of 1,326 Syrians were admitted and registered in the camps and 1,084 Syrians have voluntarily returned to Syria.

● In Nizip, the Coordination Center registering non-camp Syrians informed UNHCR that during the last few weeks, an increasing number of new-arrivals came forward for registration. The officials in the center stated that in order to avoid the multiple registrations, unless the applicants prove that they are residing in Nizip, they do not register them in Nizip but divert them to approach the officials of their place of residence. Due to the increased number of applications, the earliest appointment given for registration is 2 months ahead. As of 05 Feb 2014, the total number of non-camp Syrians registered in Nizip is 17,143 persons.

● A UNHCR team met with the head of Religious Affairs in Nizip and was informed that as of end of Jan 2014, about 55 non-camp Syrians were referred to Viransehir with priority given to their vulnerabilities. The officials also stated that there are still about 200 Syrians accommodated in the mosque, assisted with food packages, heaters, and medical assistance until further advice from the local authorities for their transfer to a camp.

● According to local officials, there are about 2,000 children of non-camp Syrians in Nizip are attending classes in 12 schools for Syrians. Reported the actual number of children at school age is believed to be more and 2 Syrians teachers (1 male and 1 female) have started to conduct a survey to identify the total number of children at school age. Depending on the need, more schools are planned to be opened. In the current 12 schools about 104 Syrian teachers are working on a voluntary basis, with each teacher is paid about 150 TL per month as incentives by the sub-governorate.

● In Kilis, the Danish Refugee Council continues to conduct an assessment to identify the vulnerable families among the non-camp Syrians registered by officials in Kilis. Those families who are identified as vulnerable are provided 90 TL per person to buy non-food items like blankets, mattresses, pillows etc.
