Yongyuth assures flood money is being handled justly
BANGKOK, 19 July 2012 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Mr. Yongyuth Wichaidit has insisted that the government’s flood compensation scheme has been carried out with no political intervention.
Following calls from Donmueng residents demanding that an amount of 20,000 baht be paid to each household affected by the flood, the Interior Minister has said the compensation has been distributed based on the circumstances and according to the regulations.
He has also denied that the compensation payment process, which has been implemented by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, is slow, saying that many areas have already been compensated.
He has also assured that neither political influence nor favoritism on any constituencies has come into play in the compensation process. Mr. Yongyuth has also defended the government's calling for bids for the government's flood management program in line with the terms of reference(tor), saying it has abided by the rules and regulations pertaining to its water management plan.
