Thailand : Govt to spend 64m baht to help flood victims in 3 provinces

BANGKOK, 7 September 2009 (NNT) - The Government will spend a budget of 64 million baht in the fiscal year 2009 to help disaster victims in Maha Sarakham, Phitsanulok, and Phuket.

The Cabinet had approved assistance for those victims in three provinces as proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The budget would be distributed to 11,612 victims covering farming area of 106,775.75 rai via the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).

Regarding the flood situation and victim assistance in August, 838 households in Uthai Thani province faced with the natural disaster in four districts, five tambons, and 24 villages. 5,682 rai of agricultural area had been affected. Currently the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and the relevant units had provided preliminary assistance to victims already.
