Thailand: Cabinet agrees on 5 yr tsunami prevention, mitigation scheme

The Cabinet agrees on the proposal of Interior Ministry for a five-year Tsunami prevention and mitigation model scheme.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Supachai Jaisamut yesterday (March 24) enunciated that the Cabinet has delegated the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) as the core agency in cooperating with other related agencies to formulate action plans and budget for the model scheme.

The scheme is to reduce losses and risk from Tsunami by educating people in the risky areas, planning measures to prevent and mitigate the disaster and setting up standard alarming systems, which can cover all areas.

In addition, the scheme is to bring about efficiency in integrated management, help supporting potential and moral supports of officials' operation for speedy and timely rescue and remedy plans.
