DDPM : Situation in 17 Vamco-hit provinces has improved but 6 are still inundated

BANGKOK, 21 September 2015 (NNT) - Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chatchai Phromlert said that floods in 17 provinces caused by tropical storm Vamco have receded, but six others are still inundated.

The 23 affected provinces are Rayong,Chonburi, Phang-nga, Chumphon, Trat, Saraburi, Ranong, Satun, Tak, Chanthaburi, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Trang, Chachoengsao, Nakhon Nayok, Krabi, Phatthlung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Prachinburi, Surat Thani, Phetchaburi, and Sa Kaeo.

Eight of the provinces needing urgent assistance are Chumphon, Chonburi, Phatthalung, Trang, Phang-nga, Chanthaburi, Rayong and Tak.

Mr. Chatchai said the flooding situation in general has started to improve . Rain has stopped and water level is decreasing continuously. Some agricultural lowlands however are still flooded.

DDPM provincial offices have cooperated with the military and relevant authorities to pool their forces and resources to improve situation in the flooded areas and assist affected people. They are urgently draining water out of low-lying areas.

Meanwhile, the department is surveying damages caused by the floods in order to provide compensation to the locals and rehabilitation funds to the flooded communities. People can call for help at Hotline 1784 around the clock.
