OSCE Office in Tajikistan holds high-level dialogue on countering trafficking in human beings

DUSHANBE, 24 May 2016 – An OSCE-organized high-level dialogue on countering human trafficking today in Dushanbe brought together some 50 participants from state agencies, civil society organizations and the international community, as part of the Office’s support to the Inter-agency Commission on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings under Tajikistan’s Presidential Apparatus.

The participants summarized the latest developments in this area, including their latest activities and those planned for the current year.

“The dialogue is a unique platform in the country where state agencies, international organizations and civil society can share information on de-facto realization of anti-trafficking legislation, and the successes and challenges in this field,” said Fabio Piana, Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan. “It is an opportunity to strengthen and co-ordinate national efforts towards the effective protection of trafficked persons and in preventing this gross violation of fundamental human rights.”

The event is a part of OSCE Office in Tajikistan’s contribution to implementing the OSCE Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings.
