Highlights

  • WFP needs close to $2 billion to assist more than 7 million Syrians in urgent need of food assistance in 2014. These include 4.25 million people inside Syria and over 2.9 million refugees in neighbouring countries.

  • In December WFP dispatched enough to assist a record of 3.8 million beneficiaries for one month inside Syria, including airlifting food to the north east of the country from Iraq.

  • Violence along the border area with Turkey causes thousands of Syrians to cross the border to seek refuge.

  • WFP distributes food rations to Syrian arriving in Iraqi Kurdistan, following the reopening of the Syrian-Iraqi border.
