Highlights

  • Syria: IOM reached over 24,000 most vulnerable men, women, and children with winterization support in Rural Damascus, Tartous, Damascus, and Hama with 18,855 thermal blankets and clothing kits. From its cross-border hub in Jordan, IOM began distribution and instalment of 1,000 shelter kits, as well as distribution of olive pit bricks for 1,000 households as part of the winterization response.

  • Jordan: IOM organised a study visit to the United Kingdom from 11 to 14 January for nine key Jordanian government actors, including the head of the Counter-TraffickingUnit and the shelter head for victims of trafficking from the Ministry of Social Development.

  • Iraq: IOM provided vocational training to 49 Syrian refugees, in addition 15 IDPs and 12 host community members in Sulaymaniyah and Dahuk. The course in hospitality and hotel management began this month as IOM’s ongoing commitment to livelihood support projects.

  • Turkey: IOM continues to support three food kitchens in Gaziantep province.
    During the winter months, IOM also provided winterization assistance to the same families benefiting from the kitchens in the form of vouchers to buy NFIs, stoves, and coal.

  • Lebanon: In coordination with USbased academic institutions, IOM launched a MobileHealth tool at eight primary healthcare centres across Lebanon as part of a joint research project on noncommunicable diseases in the emergency context.
