I. Introduction

The present report is submitted pursuant to paragraph 13 of Security Council resolution 2032 (2011), in which the Council requested the Secretary-General to continue to inform it of progress in implementing the mandate of the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA) at 60-day intervals, and to continue to bring to its attention any serious violations of the Agreement between the Government of the Sudan and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement on Temporary Arrangements for the Administration and Security of the Abyei Area (S/2011/384, annex), signed on 20 June 2011 in Addis Ababa. In the present report, reference is also made to paragraph 5 of Council resolution 2024 (2011), by which the Council requested the Secretary-General to keep it informed of progress in implementing the additional tasks listed in paragraph 1 of the resolution. The report provides an update on the situation in Abyei and on the deployment and operations of UNISFA since the previous report on the matter, of 27 January 2012 (S/2012/68).
