Drought in the Red Sea Hills area has caused food scarcity. Oxfam has made a grant to provide 2,400 mt of food aid (sorghum) to 175,000 people for a period of six months.

Western Equatoria has seen an upsurge of fighting recently as government forces have captured an area on the east bank of the river Yei from the SPLA. This has led to some displacement across the river, which is being monitored by Oxfam and other agencies. There have also been bombings of Maridi and Kotibo - towns where Oxfam has bases. Oxfam's work has resumed, but the situation is still unstable and further conflict is expected.
