Eastern Equatoria launches community health mobilisation

October 20, 2014 (TORIT) – South Sudan’s national health ministry has launched an integrated community-based health promotion project in Eastern Equatoria capital Torit.

State governor Louis Lobong Lojore presided over the project’s official launch on Saturday.

He also pledged to involve actors in other development projects and called for community policing efforts to ensure security.

The undersecretary in the ministry of health, Dr Riak Gai Gok, who was attending on behalf of the national minister, pledged his commitment to improving service delivery in the state.

He revealed that the national ministry is reviewing health policy to ensure the community care system is feasible, adding that Eastern Equatoria was fortunate to have the project rolled out in the state.

It’s hoped the project will help streamline growth and progress in the country’s health sector.

Eastern Equatoria’s minister for health, Dr Margret Itto, noted the importance of mobilising health services to bridge the gap in service delivery.

She said it’s hoped the mobilisation would help prevent the spread of rampant diseases and other endemic health problems in the country.

According to Itto, more than 1,280 community-based health promoters had been recruited across the state’s eight counties.

Hundred of the citizens in Eastern Equatoria attended the project’s launch at Torit hotel.
