Sri Lanka flood displaces over 8000
In Sri Lanka Southwestern monsoonal rain has affected several thousand people mainly in four districts in the country. More than 8600 persons have been affected by heavy rain, floods and landslides in the Kegalle, Galle, Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara Districts, the Disaster Management Centre said.
Preparedness allocations are already with respective Government Agents and they have made all the arrangements with the help of NGO's and other local volunteers to provide cooked meals to those who have been affected by floods, the Disaster Management Centre Asst Director Kodippilly told news.lk this evening. Most affected in Colombo district are at Seethawaka DS division in Avissawella area. Some of the people affected in Colombo have been provided shelters in temporary camps in Colombo, he said.
MEANWHILE Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera today visited several affected areas and instructed the government officials in-charge of providing relief assistance to provide cooked meals to all affected persons without considering their income level.
