President Mahinda Rajapaksa provided 70 new buses to the existing fleet to meet the demand of commuters, in the Northern Province. Minister Douglas Devananda was present at the occasion when the President symbolically handed over the keys to the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
The transport services in Northern Province was below expectation and the efficiency had remained zero for many decades as a result of terrorist activities
Once the troops cleared the roads in Northern Province and with the improvement of roads which were badly damaged due to the war., the Transport Ministry began to streamline the public transport system for the convenience of Northern commuters. (KH)
