65,000 Permanent Housing Programme for Conflict Affected Families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces

District Secretaries survey revealed that the total permanent housing requirement for the conflict affected families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces is 137,000. Government decided to immediately address the problem of the people living in the welfare centres due to the past 30 years old conflict.

Government policy is to close down the welfare centres and provide durable solutions to the families in the Northern and Eastern Provinces. As a humanitarian assistance, a fast track programme to provide housing on a short timeframe with appropriate technology and model was recommended as a solution under fast track arrangement.
