Typhoon Haiyan : Aid of 150,000 € has been Allocated by the Prince's Government

Following the passage of Typhoon Haiyan on 8 November 2013, the Prince's Government has just allocated urgent humanitarian aid of 150,000 € to support the victims in the Philippine archipelago via two projects – preventing epidemics and building shelters in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and AMADE Worldwide.

This urgent humanitarian aid of 150,000 € is divided as follows :

  • 100,000 euros in response to an appeal by the World Health Organization to prevent the outbreak of epidemics such as cholera and help to address the lack of access to health care and the shortage of medicines in the most affected areas ;

  • 50,000 euros in response to an appeal by AMADE Worldwide and its local partner, the Virlanie Foundation, to meet the basic needs of inhabitants of the islands of Leyte (the most severely affected, with the airport completely destroyed) and Samar, by building shelters for 30 families.

According to the latest estimates from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there were approximately 13.7 million victims and 3.43 million people have been displaced. The scale of the destruction in the most affected areas remains unquantified and conditions could still worsen.
