- As of 14 June, three weeks after clashes between government troops and non-state armed actors escalated in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur on 23 May 2017, trapped residents inside the conflict area are gradually being rescued by the authorities and the number of displaced people continues to rise.
◾The total number of internally displaced people (IDP) from the conflict is now in excess of 320 000, of which over 21 800 (7%) are in 79 operating evacuation centres, while the rest are with host families.
◾With this massive number of IDPs, the needs are overwhelming from all sectors. Priority issues remain with water, sanitation and hygiene in evacuation centres, protection issues and alleged human rights violations.
◾The Department of Health (DOH) has reported that the number of people who died at the evacuation centres has now reached 59, which is more than the 40 reported dead due to the conflict. Most of the cases are due to dehydration.
