Philippines: Construction of toilets in evacuation centers - A joint project of the Philippine National Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity
TYPHOON ONDOY (KETSANA): RELIEF, REPAIR, REHABILITATION FAST FACTS
The following are Habitat for Humanity responses:
Relief (short-term)
- Targeted at poorest 30 percent of families
- Temporary toilets in ten evacuation centers
- Soup kitchens in evacuation centers with food shortages
- Initial focus in Marikina, Pateros, and Pasig
- First toilets to be built in Nangka Elementary School through the funding support of the Philippine National Red Cross on 02 October 2009
- Student volunteers from Rizal Technological University and Hands On Disaster Response will help
- More than a thousand volunteers are in the volunteer pool of Habitat for Humanity Philippines to help in the relief and rehabilitation efforts
Repair (medium-term)
- Repair of 10,000 damaged homes
Rehabilitation (long-term)
- relocation of Pasig River informal settlers to Calauan to mitigate risk
- relocation/reconstruction of 4,000 homes designated by DSWD and the local governments of Marikina and Pasig
