I. SITUATION OVERVIEW

11 September 2016

• Severe Tropical Storm (STS) "MERANTI" entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was named "FERDIE" with maximum sustained winds of 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph

• "FERDIE" moved west-northwest at 20 kph with moderate to heavy estimated rainfall within its 300 km diameter

• STS "FERDIE" intensified into a typhoon with a maximum sustained winds of up to 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph

• Typhoon (TY) "FERDIE" intensified further as it continued to move in a west-northwest direction with moderate to heavy rains within its 300 km diameter

• Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands, while TCWS No. 1 raised over the rest of Cagayan, Northern Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, and Ilocos Norte

• TY "FERDIE" maintained its strength with moderate to heavy rains within its 600 km diameter and forecasted to move west-northwest at 24 kph

• TCWS No. 4 was raised over Batanes Group of Islands, TCWS No. 3 over the Babuyan Group of Islands, TCWS No. 2 over Ilocos Norte, Apayao and Northern Cagayan, and TCWS No. 1 over rest of Cagayan, Northern Isabela, Kalinga, Abra, and Ilocos Norte

• Typhoon "FERDIE" made a landfall over Itbayat, Batanes at 12:15 AM

• "FERDIE" continued to traverse Bashi Channel as it approached the north western boundary of the PAR

• At 7:00 AM, the eye of TY "FERDIE" was located at 150 km northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of up to 220 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph

• TCWS No. 3 was raised over the Batanes Group of Islands, TCWS No. 2 over Babuyan Group of Islands, (locos Norte, Apayao and Northern Cagayan, and TCWS No. 1 over rest of Cagayan, Kalinga, Abra, and Ilocos Sur

• Typhoon "FERDIE" exited the PAR at 12:30 PM, subsequently, all TCWS were lifted

II. EFFECTS

  1. A total of 14 families / 29 persons were pre-emptively evacuated in the Provinces of Batanes and Cagayan:
