Emergency Assistance to Peru in Response to the Flood Disaster Caused by Heavy Rain

  1. Today, March 24, upon the request of the Government of the Republic of Peru, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents, blankets, sleeping pads etc.) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Peru, in response to the flood disaster caused by heavy rain.

  2.  From last December, intermittent heavy rain has caused landslides and flooding of rivers in various regions, and damage is expanding. According to the Government of Peru, as of March 20, 78 people have died, 263 people have been injured, and 101,104 people have been affected.

  3.  In light of the friendly relations between Japan and Peru, Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Peru to meet its humanitarian needs.
