RedR-IHE has delivered a series of workshops on Sphere standards (minimum standards in disaster response) to officials and managers of humanitarian programmes in post-earthquake Pakistan. The workshops were held in coalition with The Sphere Project and the Humanitarian Accountability Project-International (HAP-I).
The workshops took place on 13-15 February in the towns of Muzaffarabad, Mansehra and Islamabad. They included background information on the Sphere Project, an outline of key standards and indicators for humanitarian operations and practical exercises for participants. Kelly Wooster, RedR-IHE Training Co-ordinator commented, 'The aim of these workshops was to raise awareness and give contextual advice on the practical application of Sphere standards in Pakistan'. She continued, 'The workshops were very successful and gave participants a chance to learn about best practice in delivering aid alongside networking with other managers.'

The Sphere workshops are one part of RedR-IHE's programme in Pakistan. RedR-IHE is also working alongside UNHCR to provide training for their camp management mobile teams, serving camps for 250,000 displaced people. The initial focus is on international camp management standards, winterization, community approach, protection and water and sanitation. RedR-IHE is also providing an in-country recruitment service for agencies to recruit national and international staff for the emergency relief response.
