China donates $100,000 to PRCS for Balochistan EQ victims
ISLAMABAD September 30, 2013: Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Mr. Sun Weidong on Monday donated a cheque of US $ 100,000 to Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) for the Balochistan Earthquake victims.
Weidong handed over the donation cheque on behalf of China Red Cross to the PRCS Chairman Major General (Retd) Ch Muhammad Nawaz Khan at the PRCS National Headquarters here.
The ambassador also hander over a cheque of PKR 1.2 million to the Chairman donated by the Chinese Embassy staff members for the Balochistan Earthquake victims.
Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador said the Chinese government and people stand with their Pakistan brethren in this hour of need. He said the donation is a token of love from the Chinese nation to their Pakistani people who are badly hit by the earthquake. He said that a friend in need is a friend indeed and we can’t forget the support from the Pakistani people during the testing teams. The ambassador appreciated the efforts of the Red Crescent for the vulnerable.
General Nawaz speaking on the occasion thanked the Chinese Ambassador for their generous support and hoped that the donation would help in alleviating the sufferings of the affectees. “The help reflects that the whole Chinese nation stands with the Pakistani brethrens in this critical time and this would help the Society to better serve the affectees,” he added.
The Chairman said that the affection and love shown by the Chinese brethren for the last 6 years through thick and thin is a proof of Pak China friendship.
He told the Ambassador that as the quake hit the area, the PRCS immediately dispatched non-food items to support 7000 Balochistan earthquake victims while health teams were heli dropped with life-saving medicines in the affected areas. He said that we are first to reach the affected areas.
The non-food items include family tent, blanket, tarpaulin sheet, stove, kitchen set, hurricane lamp, mosquito net, CGI Sheet, shelter tool kit, Jerry Cane and hygiene kit PRCS Chairman said that PRCS is making all out efforts to reach out the victims as all communication channels have almost collopased. He said that the PRCS will continue supporting the victims and more relief in terms of household and health will be provided on need basis. He said that the PRCS stands with the victims of the earthquake and will stay in the area till the rehabilitation.
He said that the National Headquarters is coordinating with Balochistan Branch and will provide all our support especially the field of shelter and health. He said four of our teams are working round the clock and so far hundreds of the injured have been provided medical care.
The PRCS assessment teams from National Headquarters and Balochistan Branch are in the affected areas and reaching to the victims with relief and health facilities. PRCS Secretary General Dr Mahboob Sardar and Assistant Secretary General Ateeb Siddiqui were also present on the occasion.
