Brief on PRCS Monsoon Response 2011, 3rd Nov 2011
SITUATION
The unusual heavy rains in months of August and September have caused floods in 23 districts of Sindh province. The floods have resulted in 462 deaths and 756 injuries, damaged 1.5 million houses and affected 6.6 million acres of land. Over 8.9 million people are affected by floods as reported by NDMA.
288,031 people still remain in more than 900 camps out of which almost 62,141 people are being hosted by families. According to the local authorities the number of relief camps has reduced as some 113,701 affected people left camps located in Benazirabad, Hyderabad and Dadu districts.
PRCS RESPONSE
PRCS immediately responded and deployed relief teams from 14th August 2011 initially in District Badin. However, as more rains came, PRCS deployed additional teams for relief operations. PRCS NHQ decided to support 10,000 families and released non food items from own stocks. More non-food items have been released from ex stock and same are under transportation to Sindh. Details of released items are attached as Annex B.
Based on increased needs of the affected community and new commitments from the Movement Partners, PRCS has increased the caseload from 10,000 families to 66,500 families (465,500 people).
