OPT: Qatar Charity delivers medical supply to the Palestinian Ministry of Health Hospitals in Gaza

Doha, December 31, 2008 - Qatar Charity (QC), a Qatar-based NGO, has delivered medical supply worth of USD 140,000 to the Palestinian Ministry of Health Hospitals in Gaza. The supplies containing medication and essential disposable equipment have been locally procured from inside Gaza. The items will be distributed to hospitals according to their needs in coordination with the Ministry of Health.

QC team in Gaza has carried out a needs assessment of the medical needs in coordination with MoH to be able to cope with the ongoing emergency. There is need for electric generators, ambulances and spare parts as many of the ambulances run by MoH are out of order.

In the meantime, QC is coordinating with the Qatari foreign ministry and other Qatari NGOs the delivery of 35 tons of medical supplies that arrived by air two days ago. The supplies have been successfully shipped inside Gaza last night (29th December). Another 55 tons of food items are pending shipment to Gaza.

QC is preparing for the dispatch of further food items in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent whilst doing field coordination with other NGOs inside Gaza.

The humanitarian situation inside Gaza is dire and there is great need for sending further humanitarian supplies.
