The Government of Japan Supports Star Mountain’s Vocational Training Program by Reconstructing the Building

Today, on July 10, 2014, the opening ceremony of the grant contract of the project for "Reconstructing the Vocational Training Building in the Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center" was held in the Star Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Ramallah.

The ceremony was opened by Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs/ Representative of Japan to the PA, and Ms. Ghada Naser, Director of star Mountain Rehabilitation Center. The amount of the project funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) is $ 123,065.

This project aimed to create a suitable training environment for intellectually disabled people through constructing a new building for the vocational training center that consists of one floor with total 5 classrooms. This new building replaced the old one which is unsuitable and structurally problematic, for the benefit of around 550 people an annual basis.

Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.45 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through MoPAD since 2010.
