Nigeria - Cholera (ECHO)

A cholera outbreak in and around Kano and Nassarawa states in Nigeria has been reported by UNICEF with 235 new cases and 12 deaths during the first week of 2014, and 75 cases and one death during the second week. In total 2 165 cases have been detected since November 2013, with 71 deaths. In addition, 89 cholera high risk wards in 21 Local Government Areas have been identified.

UNICEF is supporting the State authority in Kano and Rural Water and Sanitation Agencies to respond to the outbreak, including provision of essential supplies (ORS and Basic health kits).
