Myanmar: Displacement in Rakhine State (August 2013)

Attachments

OVERVIEW

The inter-communal violence in June and October 2012 resulted in at least 140,000 people displaced across Rakhine State. In addition, an estimated 36,000 vulnerable people in 113 isolated villages have no or limited access to job opportunities and basic services due to continued restrictions on movement and ongoing tensions.
In an effort to minimize an adverse effect of the rainy season, over 79,000 people have been relocated to temporary shelters. However, durable solutions that avoid community segregation need to be implemented urgently through trust building and reconciliation.
