Myanmar: Commander, Minister donate relief supplies to cyclone victims in Ayeyawady Division

Yangon, 1 May -- Accompanied by officials concerned, Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South West Command Maj-Gen Thura Myint Aung and Secretariat member of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs and for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Thein Zaw arrived by car at Chaungtha Beach in Ayeyawady Division yesterday and met and encouraged the storm victims at the Dhammayon building of Pyilonchantha Pagoda. Next, the commander and the minister presented K 500,000 and relief aid each to the victims. Pathein District Peace and Development Council also donated K 200,000, and relief supplies including 40 bags of rice and 30 viss of cooking oil to them. The commander, the minister and party inspected the resort hotels, condition of the beach after being hit by the cyclone and hotel and tourism services. Some hotels and guest houses at the beach were hit by the cyclone but hotel and tourism services remain smooth and operational. The commander and party proceeded to Ngwehsaung Beach and inspected hotel services, condition of the resort beach by car. They also inspected paving of concrete road along the beach being undertaken by entrepreneurs and road condition of Ngwehsaung. Afterwards, they went to Pathein and met USDA members at the office of Ayeyawady Division USDA. They explained national policies of the association and nation-building tasks. Later, cash and kind were donated to the storm-hit households in Ayeyawady Division. Minister Brig-Gen Thein Zaw presented K 2 million and 100 bags of rice donated by the USDA (Headquarters) and Vice-Chairman of Htoo Trading Co U Zaw Min K 1 million to the secretary of Ayeyawady Division PDC and the chairman of Pathein District PDC.
