Yap emergency authorities using missionary ships to access devastated

Transport problems are hampering the relief effort in Yap, in the Federated States of Micronesia, which was devastated by Typhoon Maysak last week.

The category five storm hit Chuuk and Yap states, killing five people, destroying buildings, contaminating water supplies and leaving around 7,000 people homeless.

The relief boat for Yap state has "mechanical problems" so authorities have been forced to use missionary ships to reach the outer islands to carry out assessments.
