Morocco sends new humanitarian relief to flood-stricken Mauritania

Nouakchott, Aug. 28 - Morocco sent new humanitarian aids to Mauritania following the floods that struck its southeastern region early this month, causing important damages in the city of Tintan.

An official of the Moroccan Embassy in Mauritania said the Mauritanian government received, on Tuesday, the relief assistance, which consists of 230 tons of rice and 27 tons of canned fish.

Morocco has already sent a first batch of humanitarian relief to Mauritania in mid August. This aid included 7,000 blankets, eight tons of medicines, 230 tons of rice, and 25 tons of foodstuffs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mauritanian Delegate-commissioner in charge of social and food security, Mrs Hawa Jibri, highlighted that this relief, which illustrates the depth of bilateral historical ties, will doubtless allay the suffering of the stricken population of Tintan.

Following the natural disaster, Mauritania had called for international help to provide food and medicine to about 3,000 families that were displaced by floods, especially in the city of Tintan, a town that counts 10,000 inhabitants at the borders with Mali.
