Thailand provides financial aid towards the flooding situation in Maldives
On 13 December 2012, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, donated 10,000 USD (or approximately 300,000 Baht) as financial support towards the flooding situation to the Maldives Government via Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Honorary Consul-General of Maldives to Thailand.
In late October this year, Maldives was seriously affected by Cyclone Ni lam, destroying Huvarafushi and Nolivaranfaru Islands, located in the south of the country. As a result, water supplies on the two islands were contaminated; leading to the evacuation of the peoples from the effected areas. At present, the situation has returned back to normalcy, but the Maldives Government still requires assistance from the international community to relieve the crisis.
