BISHKEK, 31 January 2013 [ACTED News] – A total of 45 village-level agro initiatives across 7 regions of Kyrgyzstan have been selected by ACTED for support with the aim of developing the agro-processing sector. These enterprises were set up and provided with necessary tools and agro materials such as food or wool processing equipment, drying machines and others. In addition, the project facilitated an improved access to raw materials by linking these agro-processing enterprises with supplying farms. Besides, capacities of agro groups have been strengthened through over 170 trainings. This included over 150 theoretical and 20 practical trainings on topics such as growing technologies, protection from pests, value chain, etc. Finally, the project has been supporting these groups in acquiring a better understanding of marketing and market trends.

This project “Promoting Rural Prosperity through Local Initiatives In the Agro-Processing Sector” is supported by the European Union and implemented by ACTED in partnership with Rural Advisory Service. As a result of the project, ACTED aims to create an enabling environment for the development of the agro-processing sector in rural areas of Kyrgyzstan.
