The clashes further affected other centers that have had an influx of displaced persons which include Sarman, Elben, Tarbaj, Kutulo, Batalu, Danaba, Quadama and Gulani.

The Wajir County Governor requested KRCS to lead the emergency response including the medical outreach, Rapid Impact Assessment of the immediate humanitarian situation and support in distribution of emergency food and NFIs, amongst others.

** Delivered Interventions**

1. Medical Outreach
The Kenya Red Cross Society's medical team has on Thursday 19th June 2014 completed the first phase of the emergency humanitarian medical response visiting a total of 17 centers since 31st May 2014.

The team has so far treated 4,203 patients during this period.

Concerning NFI distribution, KRCS is yet to receive 2,000 NFIs i.e. 1,000 NFIs each from KRCS headquarters and UNICEF.

So far only 218 NFIs have been distributed to Tarbaj and Eladow.

Challenges

  1. Sanitation and shelter continues to be a major problem as noted in all almost all the centers visited.

  2. Health has proven to be also a major challenge as some health facilities have been closed due to the conflict.

  3. The Education sector has also been affected as a number of schools have been closed due to the conflict.

Recommendations

  1. Urgent need for Sanitation and Shelter
  2. Need to continue addressing the security situation in order to re-open institutions affected (i.e. Health facilities and schools)
