Tension is high in Natu area, Igembe North District border following the killing of three people at 6am today (Wednesday) by about 15 armed cattle rustlers who took away 250 camels. Among those killed was a raider who was shot by a homeguard, as he attempted to recover the camels.

Kenya Red Cross personnel are working jointly with the Government officers in Igembe and Isiolo to assess the situation in readiness for humanitarian response as tens of people are moving to Laare market in Igembe North District, in fear of another attack.

Tension has also been reported between two communities in Gambela, Isiolo District, where close to 10 people lost their lives and more than 1700 families were displaced mid July 2009, when raiders took away over 1000 livestock. In the latest incident, one person was seriously injured and is admitted at Isiolo District Hospital, after a failed cattle raid in a village.

The area Officer Commanding Police Station (OCPD) in Isiolo has confirmed that security has been beefed up in the affected areas.
