Floods Update, 25 Apr 2012
Reporting time 25th April 2012 12:00 pm: Heavy rains continued to pound different parts of the country last evening with KRCS being called upon to give humanitarian assistance. Some of the cases involved a family of four who are still marooned in Athi river near Ngangalia Primary School. Kenya Red Cross Society is working with NDOC (National Disaster Operation Centre) and provicial administration on rescue operations. In Ruai, a family of six is marooned following heavy rains and efforts to rescue them are underway.
In Syokimau, a bridge was swept away and transport is now hampered. Kitengela and New Valley estate are also affected. In Sultan Hamud one vehicle was washed away but the driver escaped unhurt. Roads and hotels have also been submerged. Narok was also affected, especially in Uka Moja and Majengo. KRCS Narok sub branch responded to the incident. In Gwassi, one more body was recovered yesterday. KRCS is continuing to work with provincial administration, NDOC and the Government Of Kenya line ministries to respond to the situation with food and non food items being distributed in badly affected areas.
